It"s not the typical indulgent LGBT film. There are teases, moments of awkwardness, and curve balls in the storyline. The interaction and relationships are drawn out, egging on the viewer. Rather than excitement, it"s enticing and unpredictable, daring the viewer to watch and see how things unfold. If you are gay, you understand the hesitation and frustration; the fluidity and hiding; the release and freedom. If you are straight, it gives you a glimpse of the those feelings. Impressive philosophy, maturity, cunning, and understanding was shown by the parents. The ending wasn"t rushed, nor overdrawn. Every moment had a purpose. Call Me By Your Name is a work of art.
I was expecting too much I guess, especially the ending was very dull and boring. During the movie I asked myself plenty of times "Oh man, when does it end? It was not riveting at all. If it was raining outside, you had no internet connection or no mobile phone to be occupied with, I could recommend this movie.
The only thing I was enjoying a lot was the Italian atmosphere and nature, the old buildings, the old cars, the diverse languages (French, Italian, German and English) and the pretty actors and actresses.
